Literature Text

if i decided to kill
all the butterflies
would you care?
would you look down
on me and ask,
"why? you have
people who love
you. you don't
have to do this."
but i do. it's not
something i can
just stop doing.

if i decided to kill
all the butterflies
would you cry?
would you look at me
with those same
eyes you showed
last thursday
and assume that
by the power of
your sadness it would
just halt? please.
don't patronize me.

if i decided to kill
all the butterflies,
do you think i'd
have remorse? of
course. i'd shed
enough tears to
fill a pool easily
because i've failed
everyone, including
myself. there's no
point in stopping.
i'll commit
butterfly genocide.

if i decided to kill
all the butterflies,
would you see me
the same way? would
you assume i just
want to wreck
all things that
are beautiful so i
can rid the world
of mixed emotions
about things they
think are pretty?

if i decided to kill
all the butterflies,
would that be
considered a relapse
or a miracle on my
part? i'm not new
to self loathing, but
one line is equivalent
to a chrysalis
holocaust? i can't
believe that unless
you'll etch that pen
in my arm and tell
me otherwise.

if i decided to kill
all the butterflies,
would you help me
stitch their wings
and revive them?
...I just need someone to talk to.

Very interesting. The last part is a most striking question. "if i decided to kill all the butterflies, would you help me stitch their wings and revive them?"
It seems such a deep question to me.
Great writing, my friend!
